Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote closed the year with a resounding 29-22 victory against Agrinova Costa de Almería Roquetas at the Tías Municipal Pavilion, where the match was moved due to the threat of rain. This triumph keeps the team as leader of the category and reinforces their confidence for the next phase of the season.
The match began with a minute of no play as a protest against the violent events that occurred in Galicia, where a man was seriously injured in a cadet category match. After this gesture, the locals took the initiative on the scoreboard, reaching 5-2 in the 10th minute thanks to a goal by Ainhoa García despite playing with numerical inferiority. However, Roquetas reacted quickly, tying the score at 6 in the 14th minute and taking the lead shortly after.
Zonzamas' response was not long in coming. Irene Botella, one of the most outstanding players of the local team, returned the advantage to the locals in the 19th minute, which allowed the team to play with more confidence. Despite Roquetas' defensive adjustment after a timeout in the 24th minute, Zonzamas managed to maintain a slight advantage at halftime (13-11).
In the second half, after the special Christmas draw, Zonzamas came out somewhat imprecise, which allowed Roquetas to sign a good partial score and take the lead on the scoreboard in the 38th minute. However, the locals reacted quickly and just a couple of minutes later a counterattack culminated by Brenda Roger returned the advantage to Zonzamas.
From there, the local team strengthened its defense and took advantage of every ball recovery. With quick transitions and important goals from Andrea Claramonte and Agustina López, the 'batateras' (sweet potato growers) increased the difference. In addition, the individual defense on Rosa de la Caridad Leal, from Roquetas, was decisive in stopping the rival attack.
The final stretch was a display of authority from Zonzamas, who sealed the match with a spectacular "fly" by Agustina López in the 54th minute and concluding the match with a solid 29-22.
With this result, Zonzamas closes the year as the undisputed leader, with a two-point advantage over Lobas Global Atac Oviedo. After the Christmas break, the 'batateras' will face the Asturian team in a key duel for the leadership.
