The batateras achieved a crucial victory against Vinos Doña Berenguela Bolaños on Day 2 of the Division de Honor Oro. The triumph, at home and against a direct rival for promotion, is worth double for their aspirations.
Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote achieved a very important victory against Vinos Doña Berenguela Bolaños, in a match held in the Municipal Pavilion of San Bartolomé. The match, played before a good attendance of public, faced two teams fighting for promotion, and the locals were victorious by 25-23.
The start of the match was not favorable for Zonzamas, who was quickly overtaken by a partial of 1-5. However, a double exclusion of the Castilians in the 6th minute allowed the locals to shorten distances, and with two consecutive goals by Brenda Roger, the batateras were only one goal away in the 15th minute. Shortly after, a counterattack finished by Gleinys Reyes in the 16th minute tied the game at 7, restoring confidence to the locals.
After several minutes of inaccuracies by both teams, a goal by Isabel Colías in the 23rd minute allowed Zonzamas to take the lead for the first time (10-9). The first half concluded with a 14-12 in favor of the batateras, who managed to recover after a bad start.
The second half started in an eventful way for Zonzamas, with a loss of ball and an exclusion of Colías in the first minute. However, the locals quickly recovered and managed to increase the advantage to 18-14 that Lucía on the scoreboard in the 5th minute, which forced Bolaños to ask for a time out to see that the match was complicated.
Despite Bolaños' attempts to get closer on the scoreboard, Zonzamas maintained a comfortable advantage for much of the second half. In the middle of the second half, the locals requested a time out to refresh ideas, although the break was better for Bolaños, who began to cut distances little by little.
The visiting team picked up the pace in the last minutes, getting dangerously close. With seven minutes left, the score was adjusted to 23-21, which generated tension in the local team and in the stands. However, Zonzamas knew how to manage the decisive moments and, although the final score was tight (25-23), they managed to secure a victory that is worth double in their fight for promotion.
