Second round of the Lanzarote Island Championship 2021 and on this occasion with a scoring event for both the Las Palmas and Canary Islands Mountain Championships, whose regional follow-up with drivers from other islands is almost non-existent on the classic Haría ramp. In fact, the main protagonists of the climb will be the animators of the Provincial, the Gran Canaria drivers Miguel Cabal with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X and Iván Armas with the Porsche 911 GT3, with the permission of the Lanzarote driver Toñín Suárez with another Porsche 911 GT3.
The Gran Canaria drivers Miguel Cabral with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X and Iván Armas with the Porsche 911 GT3, despite being registered for the Haría Climb, will not be on the Island of Lanzarote to compete in the climb, declining the invitation from the organization
In total, 34 drivers have registered for the 42nd Haría Climb, which is one of the oldest currently held in the Canary Islands. The program takes place on Saturday, June 19, with verifications and preliminaries from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Plaza de Haría and Calle de la Cilla in this northern municipality of Lanzarote, starting the practice heat at 3 p.m., followed by the two official climbs and ending with the awards ceremony around 6 p.m. The route on this occasion remains in the 5.5 km format, starting near the town of Haría and finishing at the Mirador de Los Helechos.
This will be the fifth round of the Provincial Championship and the fourth of the Regional Mountain Championship, in addition to the second round of the Lanzarote Island event 2021. In addition to the drivers already mentioned, Julio Martínez also comes from Gran Canaria, after his good performance in the past Teguise Rally, but it will be very difficult for him to enter that fight for the podium because his older Porsche does not reach the performance of his rivals.
And of the Lanzarote drivers, in addition to Toñín Suárez, champion and leader of the Insular, in another order we have an Adrián Betancort always very fast with the Renault Megane, who will have rivals with similar mounts to Rubén Rivera and Alfredo Guerra, in addition to the return to his island of David Tenorio with his usual Opel Corsa and Marcial Alvarez with his competitive Renault Clio R3. All vehicles are in category 3, so the classifications in categories 1 and 2 or barquetas will be deserted on this occasion.
The organization is in charge of CD. Evesport with José Víctor Rodríguez at the helm and has important support from the Haría City Council, which has promoted the recovery of the event after a blank 2020 season. Its mayor, Chaxiraxi Niz, and the sports councilor, Alejandro Hernández, have worked together with Evesport to make this Canary Islands Championship climb possible, in the necessary return to normality in the celebration of sporting events in Lanzarote. The Island Council also collaborates through its Departments of Sports and Tourism, in addition to the company CICAR, fundamental for the logistics of the organization and the security caravan of the climb.
