On June 16, the first long-duration off-road GPS navigation raid in the Canary Islands is born on the island of Fuerteventura. A test that will be organized by Gran Canaria Sin Fronteras and Last 25 Expediciones, which aims to bring together navigation lovers in Majorera lands. Registration is open and the event will be on June 16 and 17 in Fuerteventura.
The Fuerteventura Norte-Sur Raid GPS aims to become an annual benchmark in GPS navigation in the Canary Islands. The first edition will have two days of competition, with more than 18 hours of navigation. It will be held in the classic and mixed navigation modes. The classic stands out for being composed of a series of mandatory passage points. And the mixed one is made up of bonus and free passage points.
With the aim of encouraging the greatest possible participation, the minimum material required by the organization is composed of a GPS, a digital camera, a compass, flashlights and a small first aid kit. The use of laptops, PDAs or any other electronic means of navigation will also be allowed. And connection to the internet, google earth and mobiles with internet connection will be prohibited.
The Fuerteventura Norte-Sur; RAID GPS is not only reserved for vehicles, quads are also allowed, as long as there are teams of two quads for security reasons and entering the same classification. And the participation of the teams will be encouraged, creating special discounts for them.
One of the organizers of the event is Juan Tomás González, who comments that they have been "in this navigation business for a long time, with many events behind us such as the Cup 180, Sahara Aventura and Sin Fronteras Challengue". And he added that now they want to "launch a great event in the Canary Islands that grows little by little, and that is the meeting point for all the Canarians who love GPS navigation".
