This past weekend, the Spanish J70 Championship organized by the Real Club Náutico of the Catalan city was held in the city of Barcelona. The weather conditions were demanding and capricious, as on Friday three races were held with an intensity of 18-22 knots, on Saturday, on the other hand, four races were sailed with gentle breezes of 5-7 knots and this Sunday, with a day that began with many clouds, three of the four scheduled races were held, with a gentle intensity that never exceeded 9 knots.
During the first two days, it was the Canary Islands team of HSN Sailing Team - from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria - who remained solid in the provisional lead, but closely followed by Tenaz and the Swedish Garm. The Gran Canaria native Jorge Martínez Doreste at the controls of HangTen-Hnos. Berga did not start well but finished the championship impeccably, being the best boat of the last day with a sixth and two resounding victories, which meant a spectacular comeback, becoming runners-up in Spain, tied on points with his brother Luis, patron of the HSN Sailing Team. The tie was with 32 points, and both had the same number of firsts, two, but HangTen-Hnos. Berga had another two seconds, while HSN only one, and that's how the tie was decided.
The Canary Islanders of the HSN Sailing Team did not have their day and had their worst races with two sevenths and a fifth, which left them without a title in third position. The last day was very exciting with three boats arriving in a handkerchief and with clear options of victory for HSN, Tenaz and the Swedish Garm. The latter, which had Hugo Rocha on tactics, Fran Palacios and Gonzalo Morales from Lanzarote on trimming, was not as successful as in the first two days and scored a 4, 9 and 8, being relegated to fourth place in the general classification.
In the Corinthian category (non-professionals), Let it be from C.N. de Dénia by Marcelo Baltzer and Juan Boronat, seventh overall, won with a certain margin, followed by the Galician Correa Kessler, by Pancho Correa and Manu Jiménez, twelfth, while in third position finished Günter from Barcelona Javier Scherck, fifteenth in the general classification.
