Qatari driver Nasser Al Attiyah will once again race in the Isla de los Volcanes-Ciudad de Arrecife Gravel Rally, which will be held on April 29 and 30 as the third round of the Spanish Super Rally Championship. The recent winner of the Dakar wants to fulfill his promise to try to win the Lanzarote event again, this time with his usual co-driver Mathias Baumel.
This confirmation took place on Thursday afternoon in Barcelona, after receiving a visit from a RTIV delegation headed by José Víctor Rodríguez as president of CD. Evesport, accompanied by Miguel Angel Domínguez, president of the FALP, as well as the Canarian driver Juan Carlos Quintana and Gerardo Rodríguez, member of the organizing committee and Councilor for Sports of Teguise.
Hosting at his home where he has set up the "Nasser Camp Racing", located in the Barcelona town of Castellfollit del Boix, for the "celebration" of his latest triumph in the Dakar organized by Toyota for the Spanish press and where he also made a driving demonstration with the Toyota Hilux T1+. After a brief meeting, Nasser confirmed to the RTIV representation that he would repeat this year in Lanzarote to try again for the victory, after the bad taste in his mouth that caused that double "puncture" of tires in 2021 and that left him KO after leading the beginning of the rally. Nasser valued "very positively" the organization and the great following of the fans in Lanzarote.
In addition to the Dakar, Nasser has been involved this year in the novel Extreme E, as well as participating in the first rallies of the Middle East Championship with winning results.
The "stars" of the S-CER who travel to Lanzarote will have a high-level opponent with Al Attiyah, adding one more R5 or Rally2, to the already extensive list of winning vehicles with which the Isla de los Volcanes-Ciudad de Arrecife 2022 Rally will have, together with the Canarian teams that manage to be also at the highest level.
For the organization of the rally it is also a boost this "international touch", which will undoubtedly bring the considered right now one of the most influential and fastest drivers in the world, with an incredible record in the Dakar and in all the objectives that are proposed.
