The dangerous chances and the game were put by Orientación Marítima. The goals, which is what ultimately counts in the world of football, were put by Pájara Playas de Jandía. Orientación Marítima deserved better luck in their league debut in the 2010-2011 season, ultimately having to settle for a draw against Playas de Jandía. David Martín from the penalty spot and Ito were the authors of the goals for the La Destila team.
The match began with dominance from Orientación Marítima, a team that took control of the ball and had the best dangerous chances. The first warning from the locals came in the 2nd minute, with a foul by David Martín from the center of the field, Sergio Torres headed the ball and David Alemán stopped it low.
The second chance of the match was not long in coming and arrived in another set-piece situation. In the 6th minute, David Martín took a free kick from the right side and David Alemán cleared with his fists. Marítima came out all guns blazing in the first minutes of the match and almost overwhelmed their rival on the field.
The local team tried again in the 17th minute, with a free kick taken by David Martín that Kamara headed and Alemán cleared. In the continuation of the play, Francis Torres volleyed from the edge of the area and again the Playas goalkeeper responded with a good save.
As the minutes passed, Pájara Playas de Jandía gradually shook off the initial dominance of Orientación Marítima. The local team played in this first half with the wind in their favor and it was very difficult for the Majoreros to get out of their own half. Juan Antonio Machín's pupils overused long balls in this first half and many balls were lost over the goal line.
In one of the few approaches of Playas de Jandía to the opposing goal, they would manage to take the lead. Caliche was brought down inside the area and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Joropo was in charge of taking the penalty and after deceiving Miguel, he made it 0-1 on the scoreboard. Too much reward for the Majorero team.
The first half ended with a chance for Orientación Marítima. After a ball hung into the area, Ito was not very accurate in controlling the ball and goalkeeper David Alemán threw himself at the feet of the striker to snatch the ball. The first half would end with 0-1.
The first minutes of the second half were identical to those at the start of the match. Orientación Marítima took control of the game and had the best dangerous chances. In the 56th minute, a backheel from Francis Torres on the edge of the area allowed David Martín to break through alone on the left and his shot went excessively high. And three minutes later, a cross from Kamara from the right was headed high by Yeray Brito.
The strong heat prevailing in the Municipal Agapito Reyes Viera took its toll on the pace of the game during the second half. Juan Antonio Machín only had two substitutes on the bench and brought Aridane and Taja onto the field. The lack of strikers that Orientación Marítima has meant that the red-and-black coach decided to position Aridane at the point of attack.
The match would liven up in the final minutes, with the spectators enjoying three goals in just 10 minutes. The reward for the better play of Orientación Marítima came in the 80th minute. Ito dribbled past goalkeeper David Alemán from the goal line and his shot was cleared off the line by Joropo with his hands. The action cost the Majorero player a straight red card and the penalty was taken by David Martín to equalize.
A mismatch in the defensive line of Orientación Marítima cost the local team the second goal. Caliche was in charge of taking a free kick from the left side, and Atxábal, unmarked at the far post, headed the ball into the back of the net. Again, the Majoreros needed very little to take the lead.
Orientación Marítima did not give up and just two minutes later managed to score the equalizer. Aridane broke down the right wing, put in a cross that Ito controlled with his chest and, surrounded by several defenders, poked the ball into the back of the net. Justice was done with the draw.
There was no time for more and the match ended with a 2-2 draw. Orientación Marítima and Pájara Playas de Jandía had to settle for a point in their league debut. A result that both coaches considered good.
