The islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are joining forces against cancer and have prepared a series of events to raise funds for associations of families affected by cancer. Sport could not be far from this solidarity fight and will also be fully involved in all initiatives. The Lanzarote runner Matías Machín will travel this weekend the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura from south to north, with more than 200 kilometers of solidarity. A new challenge for the adventurer Matías Machín, who has become a specialist in this type of solidarity races.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura hosted on Tuesday afternoon an event in which the solidarity activities that will be carried out over the next few days were presented. The press conference was attended by the president and councilor of Social Welfare and Youth of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Mario Cabrera and Víctor Alonso, the councilor of Social Welfare of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Marci Acuña, the directors of the Health Area in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, Miguel Rodríguez and Erasmo García, the presidents of Fuerteventura Against Cancer, Isabel Lauricica, and of AFOL, Carmen Arrocha, the long-distance runner Matías Machín and the photographer José Luis Valdivia.

The adventure of Matías Machín will start at 05:00 hours on Friday, December 20 from Punta de Jandía, crossing Fuerteventura through its paths from south to north and arriving at Corralejo after completing about 150 kilometers. Early on Saturday, he will take the boat to Playa Blanca and head towards Órzola. As for the established schedules, it is expected that at 12:00 hours he will be in La Asomada, at 14:00 hours in San Bartolomé and about 16:00 hours in Teguise. The arrival to Órzola is scheduled for 20:00 hours on Saturday.

The entire route will be made by the GR-131 network of trails that Lanzarote and Fuerteventura have. Matías Machín plans to travel the nearly 250 kilometers of adventure in about 36 hours. During the press conference, Matías Machín explained that the AFOL Association "helped my family when they needed it" and "I can't think of another way to collaborate with them than doing what I like the most, running".

Those interested in collaborating with this initiative can do so in several ways. Accompanying Matías Machín in some of the parts of the route or buying the shirts that AFOL will put on sale in several points of the route. The Department of Social Affairs of the City of Arrecife will donate 5 euros for each of the people who accompany Matías Machín in this solidarity adventure.

Once completed the challenge of touring Lanzarote and Fuerteventura from south to north, the participants will move to Arrecife by car and make a symbolic entrance in the capital of the island. The small walk will begin around 20:00 hours in the Castle of San José and will conclude in the Charco de San Ginés. In this emblematic area of Arrecife, the AFOL Association plans to carry out solidarity activities and receive Matías Machín as he deserves.
