Complying with the planned program, three races were held on the first day of the VIII César Manrique Trophy for the Optimist class, valid for the Canary Islands Optimist Circuit. The 109 participants were divided into two groups (blue and yellow).
In the blue group, the Norwegian Martinius Hopstock achieved victories in the second and third races, while in the yellow group, Miguel Ángel Méndez from Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria finished 1st, 2nd and 1st, which allows them to be at the top of the absolute men's classification tied at 4 points. The third place is for Pedro Scherschinski (RCNGC) 1st, 2nd and 4th in the blue group, placing himself 3 points behind the leaders.
The absolute women's leader is Isabel Lang-Lenton (RCNGC), who finished 7th, 5th and 4th in yellow, totaling 16 points. Lucía Barrientos from Club de Mar Radazul in Tenerife is second after finishing 7th, 9th and 10th in the blue group. The provisional absolute women's podium is completed by Atteneri García from Club Deportivo Código Cero.
By age categories in the men's U16, the same classification as in the absolute is repeated. The same situation occurs in the women's U16.
In the men's U13, the Turkish Toprak Caclayan leads with 15 points and partials of 3rd, 7th and 5th yellow, Simón Martín (RCNGC) is second at 19 points, third position for Cristian Ayoset Vega from the same Club and at 24 points.
The podium in the women's U13 was formed on the first day by three sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, Lili María Skomska is the leader adding a 2nd, 14th and 18th place for a total of 34 points. She is followed by Genoveva Toubes and Rocío González, from the same Club at 13 and 14 points, respectively.
In the U11, the men's category has Julián Suárez from Club Deportivo Código Cero in the lead, followed by Alberto Medina from Club de Mar Radazul. In the women's U11, Valentina De from Real Club Náutico de Arrecife leads, followed by Lola Carrión from Club Deportivo Código Cero.
After the celebration of the three races scheduled for today Saturday, the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife offered lunch to the participants, technicians and companions.
For tomorrow Sunday, three new races are scheduled to close the classification that already validates the VIII César Manrique Trophy as one of the races has been completed.
This eighth edition has 127 registered sailors from 8 countries with participation from Norway, Italy, Croatia, Estonia, the Netherlands, Turkey, the United States of America; in addition to the national fleets of the Real Club Náutico de San Sebastián, Real Club Náutico de Tenerife, Club de Mar Radazul (Tenerife); Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, Club Marítimo Varadero (Gran Canaria), Atlantis Academy and the organizer Real Club Náutico de Arrecife.
