The Canary Island derby of the Women's League 2 was decided in favor of Spar Gran Canaria, after defeating Magec Tías by a tight 56-61 Against Gender Violence.

The Lanzarote team took the initiative during a good part of the match, lacking tranquility in the decisive moments to defeat a Spar Gran Canaria that was never comfortable on the court. The triumph allows Spar Gran Canaria to get closer to the play-off zone and Magec Tías, with a bad dynamic of results, gets into trouble in the Women's League 2.

The match began with a 7-0 run in favor of Magec. Two penetrations to the basket by Daniele Lawrence and a triple by Carolina Mateo gave the Lanzarote team the first important advantage. Spar Gran Canaria adjusted its lines to get closer on the scoreboard with a 0-6 run (7-6). Unlike in previous matches, Magec Tías was successful in front of the opponent's basket and a new triple by Carolina Mateo gave them a six-point lead (20-14). A quarter that concluded with a score of 22 to 17.

Both teams tightened their defenses in the second quarter of the match, with Magec Tías regaining the maximum difference through Daniella Lawrence, who scored a basket and converted a free throw. The coach of the Lanzarote team, Aday Villalba, was not willing to give facilities to the visitors and, when he saw that Spar Gran Canaria was approaching, he requested a time-out (27-22). After the instructions from the bench, Magec Tías achieved a 5-0 run, with Carolina Mateo scoring her third triple (32-22). At halftime, the score was 32 to 27, with Spar Gran Canaria getting a basket on the buzzer.

Spar Gran Canaria only needed a minute to turn the score around at the start of the third quarter, with Cassandra Breen completing a 0-6 run (32-33) and forcing the local coach to request a time-out. Aday Villalba's instructions helped Magec Tías to take the initiative again, with a great defense. With the score at 44 to 47, the third quarter came to an end.

Magec Tías "Against Gender Violence" was not willing to give in and made things difficult again for Spar Gran Canaria. A triple by Danielle Lawrence and a basket by Yaiza García gave the Lanzarote team back the initiative. The equality was maximum until the last two minutes of the match. A triple by Casandra Breen put Spar Gran Canaria ahead again (55-56). The tranquility that Magec Tías had in attack was lacking in this final stretch of the match and the Gran Canaria team sealed the match with a 2+1 by Sparkle Taylor.

Sixth consecutive defeat for the Lanzarote team in the Women's League 2, which continues to complicate their permanence in the national category, currently occupying the twelfth place in the standings. Magec Tías visits Movistar Estudiantes next week, a match that will be played on Sunday afternoon at the Wizink Center in Madrid.
