Luck was once again elusive for CD Magec Tías "Against Gender Violence", falling in Melilla by 53 to 48 in a match that went as planned by the Lanzarote team but, due to small factors, ended up staying in rival territory.
The Lanzarote team was clear that they had to be strong in the inside game, to prevent the rival from using one of their best assets, and they succeeded, with the Melilla team only scoring 7 baskets of 2 in the entire match, six of them achieved in the first half. What the island team could not control was the scoring success from the three-point line, which is what kept them alive, nor the income when they were above on the scoreboard.
At the end of the first quarter, the local players were winning by only 2 points, 14 to 12, with excellent defensive and containment work by the players trained by Jesús García, extending the difference to 5 points, 29 to 24, at halftime of the match. Little had to be changed at the end of the first 20 minutes, other than asking for a little more head and attention to take advantage of the opportunities that the rival had left to swing the balance to the side of Tías.
The third quarter was also even, where Magec managed to cut one point, 41 to 37, and reach the final quarter alive, where everything was to be decided with the short partials that had occurred so far. However, despite the work deployed and the effort made by the Lanzarote team, the difference was again 5 for Melilla, 53 to 48, with the victory remaining in the Guillermo García Pezzi Pavilion.
At the end of the match, the coach of the Lanzarote team, Jesús García, expressed that "we lacked a bit of head to get ahead in the important moments, but I feel very proud of these players and the work they do day after day, I think it is a formidable and exciting group where we are not having luck on our side".
The Lanzarote team took the plane back from Melilla on Sunday morning, making a stopover in Madrid. Next week the rival will be Ingenia Solar Energy Costa de Almería in the Municipal Pavilion of Tías.
