J. Lasso C. - Puerto Calero
The second race of the 5th César Manrique Puerto Calero Trophy of TP52 was held on Friday in the waters off the Guacimeta airport. The day was very calm and without surprises in the classification. The boat of the Italians "Anónimo" beat the rest of the participants and the classification remained exactly the same as yesterday.
The sailing day in the waters of Lanzarote was once again a success thanks to the excellent conditions for sailing on the island. The most remarkable thing about this race was the constant wind that remained between ten and twelve knots. This allowed the boats to sail at a good pace and complete the long windward-leeward circuit, as planned.
The "Anónimo" took the lead in the race from the beginning, and after passing the first buoy, the "Tau Cerámica - Hugo Boss" was following the Italian boat very closely. With this, the Italian boat is emerging as the favorite for the final victory.
The IMS Open class has been a beautiful race, thanks to the windy day. The boats sailed in very good weather conditions. In this category, the "CAM" skippered by Fernando León Boissier won, followed very closely at all times by the host boat "Puerto Calero-Hesperia", which, skippered by Federico Morales, gave his direct rival a lot of trouble and was only two minutes away from the first.
In IMS 670, the winner of both races was the boat from Benalmádena "Clínica Arroyo" skippered by Pablo Villar Farres, followed by "Tacchini-Sabina" from Gran Canaria, skippered by Felipe del Rosario.
In the IMS 600 LC class, the winner of the first day was the "Icaro" from R.C.N. Gran Canaria, commanded by Gustavo Martínez Doreste. The second place was for the "Zurich" commanded by Hugo Rocha.
In RN 1, after making the time compensations, the boat from Gran Canaria "Audi-Timberland" skippered by José María Ponce Fernández won the first and only leg of this day.
In RN 2, the winner of the race was the boat from Tenerife "Gaggenau" skippered by Lucio Pérez Aranaz, who won the leg in compensated time and was also the first boat to cross the finish line.
In the RN Club, the winner was the cruiser "Esmar III" from R.C.N. de Tenerife, commanded by Carlos López Castellano, after making the time compensations. In this class, the classification is temporary pending a solution to a problem that arose at the last minute.
As always, the organization of the 5th César Manrique Puerto Calero Trophy waited in the moorings of Puerto Calero for the winning boats of today to give them a basket with fruits and champagne so that the crew members of the boats could recover their strength.
Upon the arrival of the boats, the booths in the Plaza de las Carpas were already in operation waiting for the participants of the different categories. There, a succulent snack offered by Restaurante Amura, a tasting of Canarian wines, a stand of cold Dorada beer to recover after a hard day at sea, awaited them...
Just like yesterday, the organization has taken care of preparing a social program for the sailors, to ensure that sport, culture and society go hand in hand everywhere. To achieve this, Puerto Calero has organized an excursion to the Timanfaya National Park for the companions. For the transfers, Puerto Calero has provided buses so that those who wish to go do not have problems with the transfers.
Afterwards, a dinner was offered at the Monumento al Campesino offered by the Lanzarote Tourist Board in honor of the sailors. During the dinner they had the opportunity to laugh with the performance of the well-known comedian Micki Nadal, a comedian of great national fame thanks to his fantastic performances in programs such as El Club de la Comedia and enjoy the fabulous performance of the music of Trío Horizonte.
