Lanzarote will soon host the 1st David Infante Memorial "El Fula". An event to remember this young man who lost his life two years ago while surfing at La Santa beach, in the area known as "El Quemao", in Tinajo. "We want it to be something beautiful and non-profit," explains Jorge López, one of the people in charge of organizing the event.
The championship, organized by El Cruce Surf Shop and Nixon, will be held between the months of February and March in "El Quemao", when the best conditions are given for it. "When we see that there are good waves, we will notify the participants," explains Jorge López.
A total of 32 riders from all over Europe, who have been invited, will participate in the event. Among them, for example, will be Tiago Pires, Jhonatan González and José María Cabrera. "Very recognized riders from all over Europe will come. From France, from the United Kingdom, from Germany," says Jorge.
In this way, the friends of David Infante "El Fula" want to remember him. And, in fact, according to Jorge López, at the opening of the championship "there will be an offering of flowers and the ashes will be thrown into the sea". "It will be something very special."
"A great friend of all"
David Infante "El Fula", resident in Fuerteventura and born in Gran Canaria, died on January 1, 2009 while surfing with a group of friends at La Santa beach, in the area known as "El Quemao", in Tinajo
The body of the young man, 32 years of age, appeared unconscious on the shore and presented a traumatic brain injury due to a blow against the rocks, and a cardiorespiratory arrest. Although the emergency services tried to revive him, they could not do anything to save his life.
Jorge López, friend and colleague of "El Fula" in Gran Canaria, still remembers the day that David Infante lost his life. "I was leaving the water and he was entering. After a while, a colleague came to warn me of what had happened. I couldn't believe it," he says. "He was a good person and a great friend of all," recalls Jorge López.
