The island of Lanzarote will receive the best teams that follow the Spanish Rally Super Championship 2022 (S-CER) and also the Canary Islands Rally Championship on Land, with the "Isla de los Volcanes-Ciudad de Arrecife Trophy" on April 29 and 30.
The 24th edition of the event organized by CD. Evesport will feature a squad never seen before in the Canary Islands in a competition of this type, with no less than 11 R5 or Rally2 type cars, distributed among the 10 drivers who visit us from different parts of peninsular Spain and the 19 Canarian drivers. In total, about thirty "high-flying" teams, who are going to give an impressive sports show in the Lanzarote sections and to the thousands of fans who will arrive from everywhere, so as not to miss this third round of the S-CER and second of the Regional Championship.
Although the organization's forecasts estimated a greater number of entries, on the other hand, the quality has improved substantially compared to past editions, with a more reinforced balance between the possibilities of the Canarian drivers compared to the strong followers of the S-CER.
The top three classified in the drivers section of this national event will be the big favorites, as is the case of Iván Ares (provisional leader) and Pepe López, who drive state-of-the-art Hyundai i20s, plus Efrén Llarena with the Skoda Fabia Rally2 with which he alternates the FIA-ERC, who follow him by a small difference in points.
Looking to match the above within the S-CER we have Surhayen Pernía with another Hyundai i20 and the official Citroen driver, Alejandro Cachón, who will be the alternative in the fight for the podium places of this XXIV Rally Isla de los Volcanes-Ciudad de Arrecife Trophy. But above all, the current super champion José Antonio Suárez, also with Skoda Fabia Evo Rally 2, who despite his bad start to the season is always a great favorite.
On the Canarian side, last year's winner Yeray Lemes repeats with Skoda Fabia, as does our representative in the national CERT, Juan Carlos Quintana, second in the 2021 edition. And another aspirant joins with similar options to make his dream come true, since Kevin Guerra will be at the start with another Citroen C3 R5. The young Lanzarote native Raúl Hernández will be the only one in the Rally4 category with a Peugeot 208.
Neither do they miss this S-CER event drivers of the stature of Gustavo Sosa with another Fabia R5, Borja Pérez, Aníbal Machín, Aníbal Hernández, Esteban Feo, Armiche Mendoza, Javier Sosa, Zósimo Hernández or Daniel Guerra and Iriome Perdomo, among other drivers from the islands, with their usual vehicles from the Canary Islands Land Rally Championship, which began a few weeks ago with the Isla Verde Rally of La Palma. Precisely Guerra and Perdomo with their spectacular Subaru Impreza finished second and third on the podium of the inaugural round of the Regional Championship.
And after several editions absent, we will once again have in Lanzarote one of our most international rally-raid drivers, Cristina Gutiérrez, who was already in the 2017 edition when the event aspired to enter the national championships. Cristina, who this year has a dense preparation program for her next Dakar, combines this type of rally as training with her participation in the Extreme-E, where she has the "master" Sebastien Loeb as a teammate. This time she will drive the VW Polo N5 of the Sport&You Canarias team.
