I have been saying for some time that education cannot be subject to reform, to patches, every time the political sign of the government changes, whether in the State or in the autonomous communities; that there is no system that can resist it; that it was essential to achieve a consistent and lasting pact for education.
And here we are out of the game, in the dilemma that what should have been agreed upon at the time may have to be reformed with or without the desirable consensus. Because the current education system has clear deficiencies that affect our future.
It turns out that the current socio-economic situation, the macro crisis we are suffering, does not allow for further delays and postponements. The pact for education must be made now and quickly, putting aside partisan egoisms (from all sectors) because it involves all of us: not only political parties, but civil society as a whole, since we all, in one way or another, in one or another area, are a school community: teachers, families, institutions, socio-labor actors, media?
And how do we start? Well, very easy: addressing in the first term what are the causes that have generated the diseases we suffer today. Why are we considering that the authority of the teacher has the force of law and what responsibility do certain teachers, certain families, some messages transmitted by the media, some representatives of the administration have in this?
Why have some values such as respect been lost or deflated
(and the fault that this has the absurd and pernicious practice of "collegiality", of leveling roles without measuring its consequences), effort, commitment, the desire to excel?; how have we reached the unbearable rates of school failure, why is there such a divorce between school and business?
Once the analysis has been done and the evaluation carried out, we must consider where the brilliant ideas and the absurd prioritization of educational needs have led us: laptops for everyone, digital screens, free and universal loan books, lack of adaptation of the system of access to the teaching career, subsidies for activities of all kinds: white and green weeks, extracurricular activities of pilates, Chinese?, absurd studies that lead to nothing, scholarships without demand, tuition for students who take 8 years to finish the degree?
And having analyzed this, what level of languages do our students have?, what level of language-communication?, is the importance that social skills have being given?, is the culture of effort being educated (entrepreneurship, incentivizing achievements through perseverance and commitment)? And these values are also applicable to some parents (the reconciliation of work and family life requires added efforts) and to some teachers.
Because let's not forget that there is no greater inequality than equality. Does it make sense that books are free for everyone and, also on loan, that students cannot manipulate or underline? with the demotivating effect that it entails? Not a single student without textbooks, and free and owned by those who cannot afford them; ambitious scholarship policy so that no one is denied the right to education, but with performance responsibility. Nor can the State maintain subsidized tuition for those who take the University as an endless period of "student life"?
The teaching career must vary and the mechanisms of access to it as well; incentivize good professionals much more and ask for responsibilities from those who are not so good, the least, but there are also some, as happens in all sectors; do not penalize youth versus experience, both can coexist; the introduction of the PIR (something similar to the MIR of doctors); permanent evaluable training; let's not confuse stability with perpetuity: we are talking about education; adapt the study plans to what is going to be taught and the methodology to what is going to be needed. A career, like any profession, begins when studies end: THE REALITY OF DAY TO DAY.; equalization of public and concerted salaries?
A call for common sense.
