More of the same

Clientelism, waste, and senselessness have become strong in Marciano Acuña's fiefdom, up in the north of Lanzarote. The latest gesture of cacique politics based on the purchase of wills that replaces the democratic will of dialogue and transparency is the release of councilor Elizabeth Socas, which adds to the more than predictable one of the new councilor who joins the Corporation and who will constitute salary number nine.

As things stand, we find ourselves with an unprecedented panorama in the municipality, in which the politicians who are paid from public coffers are more than the workers in the Social Services department or the Technical Office.

And the house, unswept: roads full of potholes, lack of maintenance of public facilities, dirty beaches in the middle of the summer season, zero recreational and cultural activity?

The residents of the north make real efforts to contribute with their taxes to shared well-being and collective quality of life. And the mayor allocates them to guarantee political support for his poor management and the guidelines set by the Cabildo, in an effort to justify once again a terrible management in Haría.

But time will put things in their place and the current mandate, characterized by judicial controversy, subservience to the interests of Pedro San Ginés, and the neglect of citizens, will be food for oblivion.
