... OH MOM, TRICOLOR FLAG, WITH SEVEN GREEN STARS. On October 22nd we celebrate the 44th anniversary of our Canarian National Flag. I didn't see it when it was born but I have enjoyed its youth and maturity. From excursions, demonstrations and festivals in my youth, where I saw it waving beautifully against the wind, to having it engraved as part of my personal, political and professional life. The flag of the people, because the reality of the Canary Islands is that there is a large majority of the population that shares the principles of the tricolor flag with seven green stars, a large majority that is reflected in the objectives of Canarian Nationalism. The polls say so. However, in recent years there has been a setback in nationalist aspirations. The dominant force of Canarian nationalism and the majority in the political landscape, COALICIÓN CANARIA, has lost credibility among Canarian voters. After 15 years governing this Archipelago, we have to take a break and reflect on how to win and grow the trust of all Canarians in the nationalist project. We all agree on that.

Next Saturday, October 25th and Sunday, October 26th, Canarian nationalists will celebrate the IV NATIONAL CONGRESS OF COALICIÓN CANARIA in Gran Canaria. Good date for a deep reflection with the Tricolor Flag with seven green stars in the background. This is the best scenario to review and strengthen the Canarian National Identity and the Self-Government of this nation. It is the best opportunity for the progress of Nationalism, Coalición Canaria and the Canary Islands. "Not a step back, not even to get a running start." We have the enormous responsibility of grabbing the flag of Canarian nationalism and waving it on the front line of the demonstration, committing ourselves in a new oath with our Canarian society: "I swear by the bones of my ancestors to defend this land and these people."

A few months ago we set a procedure with the idea of "LISTENING TO EVERYONE AND MOVING FORWARD WITH EVERYONE." The purpose was to promote a debate in the social movement and in the bases of Coalición that would transmit to us what our mistakes and successes have been. That they would mark the guidelines for debating in our IV Congress and obtaining conclusions towards the future. The main concerns of our affiliates, sympathizers and people from the socio-political movement have revolved around the lack of political credibility and the lack of harmony with the society of our project. That we have an image associated with the business sectors and interests, an image of merchants with respect to the Spanish State and the loss of the nationalist discourse. We have been more focused on managing well than on making a party and promoting the signs of our identity. It is true that the fundamental role of Coalición Canaria in the development and modernization of the Canary Islands in this period 1993-2008 is also valued.

We have listened and made self-criticism, we are reflecting and now, in the congress, it is time to make the APPROPRIATE CHANGES in our failures, reinforce our identity and grease our party to the new commitments of Canarian nationalism.

JUAN ANTONIO DE LA HOZ GONZÁLEZ, PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL COMMITTEE OF COALICIÓN CANARIA OF SAN BARTOLOMÉ DE LANZAROTE.
