I was reading with amazement a press release from the Cabildo of Lanzarote where they thanked and recognized the work of two youtubers, Rudy and Ruyman; two people who selflessly and spontaneously show the charms of the Canary Islands to the world. I must say that I am not against such distinction, not at all, it is true that in Lanzarote we have had enough school so as not to forget that here we have youtubers, influencers and everything that comes our way.
A priori, it may seem like a minor issue, unimportant, but I think it is not a trivial issue the recognition that the institutions of Lanzarote should have towards those who exert influence and help us to promote and represent us in the field of culture, art, or any other discipline. Recognition that must have as its main component the exemplary nature, above all, to break with what the Spanish proverb says that "no one is a prophet in their own land".
I do not doubt the good action of these two youtubers who steal so many smiles from us. On the contrary. Let me express my express recognition of their work in promoting the islands. However, it is no less true that I am assailed by a feeling of sadness and a certain injustice because in Lanzarote we always tend to forget about our own, our brand, the Lanzarote Brand. And that is when we have great professionals exercising abroad the best representation that an island can have with a lot of potential and talent in all fields.
This cabildicio oversight has made me reflect on the idea that some have of what Lanzarote is and what it exports, fundamentally nationalism, which in view of the news seems to value more what is outside compared to our own.
That is why I sincerely believe that we must do justice to those men and women who represent us so well and I have set about it. Lionel Morales, Alejandro Hernández, Almudena Hernández, Juanjo López, Rosana Arbelo, Jose Carlos Hernández, Kike Pérez, Ildefonso Aguilar, Benito Cabrera, Pancho Corujo, among many others.
This may be a good opportunity, and I ask you to do so, for us to add in the "comments" those people who we believe deserve to be on this list and that in some way the people of Lanzarote can recognize their effort and commitment to carry our flag wherever they deploy all their potential. Let us thank them for keeping our land in their hearts, improving the external image and reinforcing our brand; Lanzarote Brand.
