The Yaiza City Council team said goodbye last Friday to the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) with "excellent sensations" and a "very positive balance." The Yaiza representation was headed by Mayor Óscar Noda during the three days of professional meetings and meetings with tour operators, agents and prominent members of the sector, in which they have also taken the opportunity to present sports events and collect the distinction of Smart Tourist Destination.
In 2023, Yaiza began a transformation process towards a more intelligent, digital and accessible management model, hand in hand with the Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society (SPEL), to become a Smart Tourist Destination (DTI). A work from which it now reaps its first fruits by becoming one of the three Lanzarote municipalities to receive this recognition.
"The inclusion in the new paradigm that opens up within tourism to count and quantify the experiences of tourists in the destination, in this case in Yaiza, is rewarded," said with pride the southern president, Óscar Noda, who guarantees that "we will continue to bet on innovation and on establishing mechanisms that allow us to know and test what the tourist thinks to continue improving as a destination in search of excellence."
Presentation of the 'Bestial Race Xtreme de Yaiza'
On the other hand, in the sports field, the southern delegation formed by the mayor and the councilors of Sports and Tourism of Yaiza, Ángel Lago and Daniel Medina, respectively, went to the stand of Fitur Sport to personally present to tour operators specialized in sports matters the Bestial Race Xtreme de Yaiza, a race with obstacles scheduled for August 24 that is part of the Bestial Race calendar. A test with very good forecasts thanks to the consolidation of Yaiza as a sports destination, as the southern representatives were able to confirm at the stand, and that is that "there are already many tour operators aware of the intense sports activity that takes place in our municipality under the umbrella of Lanzarote Sport Destination," said Lago.
Also in sports matters, Noda and Lago attended the presentation of the Rally Isla de los Volcanes, a test that will be held next July on the island of Lanzarote and is sponsored by the southern consistory.
The event was held at the CICAR company stand, a condition that the mayor took advantage of during his speech to, in addition to maintaining his commitment to the rally to "support it in the logistical, economic or whatever is necessary because motor fans also deserve it." As well as publicly convey his congratulations to the CICAR company and the Cabrera Medina family for the award for "Best Transport Company" received at the FIJET Awards (International Federation of Tourism Journalists).
For his part, the head of Tourism and Beaches, Daniel Media, met with representatives of Jet2 - one of the most important tour operators - to learn firsthand the forecasts for this 2024 with respect to Yaiza, confirming "excellent figures, with practically one hundred percent of its places sold," Medina highlighted.

"Playa Blanca and the municipality of Yaiza in general will enjoy very good occupancy in this new year, the expectations are very good and that is thanks to private companies and tour operators but also to the good management and the great work that is being done from the Administration."
"We have come to Fitur to consolidate the municipality of Yaiza also as a sports tourism destination and we leave with extraordinarily positive sensations and expectations. The balance is very positive, and not only in sports, since we have verified that the work carried out in previous years is maintained, and that Yaiza continues to be recognized not only for its climate and its idyllic beaches, but also for its landscape and its culture, something that pleases and excites us," concludes Noda.
