Workers of the union Coordinadora Estatal del Sector del Handling y Aéreo (Cesha), who provide ground assistance to the airline 'Binter Canarias', have called a strike that, if no agreement is reached with the company "before Thursday", will take place from September 8 to the first day of November in all airports of the Archipelago, according to the spokesman of the Strike Committee, Ruben Díaz, to ACN Press.
Díaz denounces that the entity Atlántica Handling S.L.U., a subsidiary of the 'Binter Canarias' group and in charge of providing services such as baggage check-in and passenger transfer, has "systematically" dismissed the candidates or union delegates of the workers, in a way that they consider "unjustified".
He also recalls that from 2006 to 2010, the company has expelled 22 representatives out of a total of 35. In that sense, he adds that the business behavior of dismissal and sanctions "covers and protects acts of insults and threats" to union delegates and "their families", which has led to "reporting these facts through criminal proceedings".
The workers demand the cessation of this "anti-union behavior" and that one of their colleagues, Domingo Rizo, be reinstated, and that the company adopt "measures that guarantee the dignified treatment of workers and their personal integrity".
Although he assures that they have met with the company to agree on minimum services, he warns that, for the moment, "we have not reached any agreement". The Committee estimates that the strike could affect 30 percent of flights between the Islands, although it anticipates that services will be maintained with La Gomera and El Hierro, islands in which only Binter operates.
Specifically, the strike is called for the 8th, 9th, 16th and 26th of September, the 7th, 12th, 16th and 28th of October and the 1st of November from 06:45 to 10:00 hours and from 15:15 to 19:15 hours.
