The Consortium for the Defense and Promotion of the Protected Landscape of La Geria, the tour operator TUI España Turismo SA and the Special Employment Center Grevislan S.L. have signed an agreement this Wednesday for the protection and conservation of this space, within the project "Save La Geria".
The document, signed by the current president of the Consortium, the mayor of Tías, Francisco Hernández; and the representatives of TUI, Carmen Batista; and of Grevislan S.L., Guadalupe Villalba, aims to establish the lines of collaboration that, in a coordinated manner between the three parties, can influence the maintenance and recovery of the protected areas of La Geria, the promotion of gastronomy and the promotion of the local economy of the island.
As explained by the president of the La Geria Consortium, "this action is part of a global strategy of respect for the environment in its social, economic and environmental spheres. Each party commits to working and collaborating to, fundamentally, promote the dissemination to tourists of La Geria as a protected area, promoting responsible tourism committed to the environment".
Hiring of disabled people
In addition, this agreement includes, through Grevislan, the hiring of disabled people, whose work will be remunerated and focused exclusively on the recovery and maintenance of farms, road margins, removal of debris in ravines or improvement of trails, among other actions.
TUI's participation in the "Save La Geria" action plan is based on the commitment acquired to include in the excursions of its program the tour of this protected area and provide tourists with information about this project, as well as its landscape and cultural value.
In this sense, the Consortium will make available to them an enclave within La Geria that serves as a reference for TUI España clients and that will be promoted as part of the tourist information, highlighting the importance of this landscape, wine production and agricultural activity.
In this way, TUI will involve its clients in the initiative, and will contribute a percentage of the excursions to cover the conservation and maintenance of La Geria.
