The works of the future Costa Teguise Institute were going at a "good pace" and it seemed that the center could open in September of this year. However, the works have been paralyzed by an economic conflict between the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands and the company awarded the contract. At the moment, it is unknown when these works will begin and when the work will be completed. In addition, if an agreement is not reached between both parties, the Deputy Minister of Education, Manuela Armas, has indicated that "a new tender will have to be launched" and the project will have to be awarded again.
The new Councilor for Education of the Teguise City Council, Lourdes Cabrera, explained that the company presented an economic budget "quite low" to be awarded the work. However, he has tried to expand this item through "amendments", something that the Ministry of Education has not accepted.
Manuela Armas has indicated that to resolve this conflict, the technical services of the Ministry met this Wednesday with the company to "adjust prices". In addition, there will be a second meeting this Thursday. If an agreement is reached, the works will continue. If not, the project could be put out to tender again. "Nothing else can be done," Armas said.
The Deputy Minister of Education has indicated that the technical services are analyzing "the issue of prices" of this award. "If you have a contract with someone, all prices must be respected," he said. Therefore, until this conflict is resolved, Armas does not know when the work will begin again.
Lack of security personnel
In addition, the Councilor for Education of La Villa has highlighted another problem in the works of this institute. The structure is up, but there is still a lot of work to be done, such as starting to place the windows or the electrification. However, this has not yet been carried out because security has not been put in the center. "They fear that the material, especially copper, will be taken away in a vandal act. That, at least, says the works management," Cabrera explained.
Cabrera has indicated that both the City Council and the parents "are aware" that the work will not be completed in September, although it could be completed and, therefore, open the center in the middle of the course. In the event that this situation is reached, the students who were going to go to the IES Costa Teguise will go to the IES Teguise. "When the new center opens, they will simply move," said the councilor.
In this way, the IES Teguise would host ESO classes in the morning and training modules in the afternoon, so that "the students of that center do not meet with much older students," Cabrera explained, since it is something that "worries" parents.
The Teguise City Council is also committed to building a new nursery school, to accommodate children from 0 to 6 years old. In the current school, children from 6 to 12 years old will study and from 12 onwards they would go to the Institute.
