The Christmas market stallholders provide 103 signatures from businesses that support their permanence

The stallholders of the market that is installed weekly in the Ramírez Cerdá park of Arrecife have presented this morning in the Town Hall a document with 103 signatures, collected in two days, from businesses in the capital supporting their claim to remain every day until January 7 in this place.

The market had permission to remain every day of Christmas until January 7. However, the mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, signed a decree so that they could only sell on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The stallholders have indicated that he bowed to the interests of the federation of small and medium-sized enterprises.

With these signatures, accompanied by a small text that alludes to solidarity at Christmas, the stallholders want to demonstrate that many merchants, even those belonging to that federation, agree that they should be installed in the park and consider that their activity does not harm them or create unfair competition.

Dismissal

The mayor, on the other hand, dismissed this Wednesday the advisor appointed by the Party of Independents of Lanzarote, Manuel Machín, who was in charge of attending to the market on behalf of the Department of Commerce, which is directed by the pilista Amor Castañeyra. One of the spokespersons for the market, Rogelio Quintana, points out that he was the best interlocutor they had had.

Finally, Alternativa Ciudadana has presented an appeal for reconsideration against the decree signed by the mayor because it considers that it lacks legal basis and that it generates irreparable economic damages to the market and even to the City Council itself "if the stallholders claim the compensation to which they would be entitled". And it is that, it is worth remembering that they had already paid for the license for the entire Christmas period and had bought goods with that forecast.
