The PSOE of Lanzarote has firmly denounced the consummated pact in Granadilla de Abona, where Coalición Canaria has added its votes to those of the Partido Popular and Vox to snatch the Mayor's Office from the Socialist Party. For the Lanzarote socialists, this new agreement "is a clear sign that CC is willing to do anything to achieve or retain power, even at the cost of allying with the extreme right."
The spokesperson for the Insular Executive of the PSOE of Lanzarote, Cristina Duque, has been blunt: "Coalición Canaria has made it clear that its only limit is power. They have embraced the extreme right without shame, and what has happened in Granadilla is not an isolated event, it is a strategy. They have done it in Arona, in Teguise and now in Granadilla. They will also do it in Lanzarote if the numbers add up."
Duque has warned that what is happening in different parts of the Archipelago "is not a coincidence, but a perfectly designed political roadmap": "Coalición Canaria presents itself as a moderate party, but its actions betray it. To agree with Vox is to whitewash their hate speech, their retrograde policies and their contempt for fundamental rights."
From the PSOE of Lanzarote they warn of the "deception and the false image of centrality that CC wants to project". "Whoever agrees with the extreme right is not a containment wall, it is an entry route. And in Lanzarote we have already seen very clear signs of where they are heading," added Duque.
The socialist spokesperson concluded by underlining "the PSOE's commitment to a plural, democratic and socially just Lanzarote": "Faced with those who put their seats before democratic values, the PSOE will continue to defend the rights, freedoms and dignity of this island. Lanzarote does not deserve a government sustained by the far right."
