The PSOE of San Bartolomé has decided to create the Alexis Tejera Awards "so that his figure and his memory are forever linked to the Association and the municipality."
The party points out that the agreement was adopted at the assembly held last Saturday, April 30, at the Playa Honda Civic Center, in which the new Local Committee of San Bartolomé was elected, and at the proposal of the new general secretary, Raúl de León.
The Alexis Tejera Awards will be presented by the Local Group of the PSOE of San Bartolomé, once the commission in charge of drafting the corresponding bases is constituted, which must be approved by the new Local Committee. The party points out that the initiative was welcomed "with pride by the members, affiliates and supporters attending the assembly, among whom was the family of the former mayor".
"Really change things"
The PSOE points out that the Awards will be "closely related" to the values represented by Tejera throughout his life, and that they say are synthesized in a phrase he pronounced when taking office as mayor: "May the well-being of the citizens be the sole and exclusive engine of political and administrative action during the next four years".
Alexis Tejera Lemes was elected mayor of San Bartolomé in 2019, when he led the PSOE list that obtained the absolute majority of the votes, an electoral result that had not occurred in the City Council for more than three decades.
"Of deep democratic and socialist convictions, his career was characterized by his dedication to the common good, the protection of the disadvantaged and the closeness to the citizens to, in his own words, really change things and move towards a better municipality", the socialists point out.
"Persevere in the course set by Alexis Tejera"
After his designation, the new general secretary of the PSOE of San Bartolomé, Raúl de León, emotionally remembered Alexis Tejera, of whom he said: "You marked the way and be clear that we will leave our skin in following your course, the fixed course, comrade".
"Without the unquestionable figure of Alexis Tejera, this project would not have been possible. He was an excellent leader, a great companion, a socialist of conviction and a man who made the project in San Bartolomé consolidate, fighting for it until his last breath, always thinking of each person and the best for this project and the municipality", said the outgoing secretary and current deputy secretary, Antonio Rocío.
