The president of the local PIL committee in Teguise, Laureano Álvarez, has lashed out this Monday against the acting president of the party, Ramón Bermúdez. Álvarez has sent a statement to the press in which he asks Bermúdez to "start complying with the statutes and regulations" of the party once and for all. Affirming that he is speaking out "in view of the repeated public statements made by Don Ramón Bermúdez", Álvarez lists his requests with the aim, he points out, of making them reach "the public opinion, and especially our members and supporters". This statement is in itself a letter to the acting president, as Álvarez states that "he does not answer calls, messages or the invitation" from the committee to attend its meetings.
Firstly, the president of the Teguise committee "urges" Ramón Bermúdez "to free the PIL from the kidnapping to which he has subjected it". "To urge Don Ramón Bermúdez to convene the party congress as soon as possible, inviting him that if he feels with sufficient leadership, charisma, capacity for work, creator of illusion in the citizens and assume the responsibility of taking our party to the levels of popular support it had in the past, to present himself as a candidate and get the referendum of the members freely and democratically", he adds. At the same time, Álvarez asks him not to "take advantage" of the "interim period he is enjoying now, achieved in such a disloyal way, or otherwise allow others to do so".
Another of Álvarez's requests is that Bermúdez "comply with current legislation and convene the PIL Political Council, as provided for in its statutes, every three months". In this sense, the president of the local PIL committee in Teguise points out that the last one took place on August 6 last year.
"Is this the democratic character he preaches?"
On the other hand, Laureano Álvarez asks that "compliance be given" to a request he made on June 17 for "a copy of the party's statutes duly registered in the Register of Political Parties of the Ministry of the Interior and the minutes of last year" to be "delivered". "Is this the democratic and legal character that you preach so much, and claim that others did not have? What do you have to hide in order not to provide such information to the members? Or are you afraid that your disloyal and irresponsible behavior will be exposed with it?", the president of the local committee asks himself.
"Don Ramón Bermúdez, in his erratic behavior, criticizes in the media the local committee that I preside over because, according to him, we do not follow the guidelines emanating from the executive committee", Álvarez continues. "Can you explain to us what these guidelines are and what is the coordination that exists between that executive committee, the local committees, the public officials, etc.?", he asks the acting president. Álvarez states that they are unaware of them because Ramón Bermúdez "does not answer calls, messages or the invitation that we have made to him to attend as president to any of the meetings of our local committee". "Is this the dialogue that you repeat so often that should not be lost? Know that I will always be willing to attend the meeting that you convene me to make that dialogue a reality".
On the other hand, Laureano Álvarez reproaches Bermúdez that "the criticism he makes about the election results should be a reason for self-criticism for everyone, including you". In this regard, he considers that this should be done "not precisely in the media, but behind closed doors". "That is a responsibility that falls to you as president of the party", he urges.
"Stop looking for excuses, stop criticizing in the media, stop always blaming others, assume your responsibility, facilitate dialogue, make self-criticism, convene the congress and allow all of us to express ourselves and act freely by choosing our organic cadres, only then will democracy return to our party and illusion to our members and supporters", he concludes.
