The Popular Group of the Cabildo of Lanzarote will ask the government team to "definitively promote the construction of the Motor Circuit”, an infrastructure that they consider “necessary for the automotive sector of the island”. “It is an initiative that has been talked about a lot but that, like so many other projects and initiatives, collides head-on with the Island Planning Plan of 91”, they point out from the PP.
In this sense, the Popular Party requests that “the necessary changes be articulated with respect to the Island Planning Plan of Lanzarote (PIOL)” so that Lanzarote “can house equipment of these characteristics”.
“It is necessary that we move from words to deeds, and in view of the fact that the government does not plan to carry out the modification of the PIOL in this mandate, at least a specific modification of the plan should be made depending on the place that is technically considered most viable”, claims the popular councilor, Jacobo Medina.
“The lack of urban planning adapted to the new legislation, and the obsolescence of what was planned 30 years ago, cannot be an obstacle so that we cannot continue working in specific areas of soil types”, says Medina, who recognizes that with everything that has happened with the suspension of the Isla de Los Volcanes Rally, “perhaps we should take advantage of the moment and advance in this old demand of fans and motor enthusiasts on the island”.
The popular fear that if a step forward is not taken in this regard, if “clear and forceful” decisions are not adopted, the future of motoring may be put at risk on an island, “which has been working for years to be a benchmark also for sports and sports tourism”.
“There is no doubt that it is a segment that, in addition to already having a tradition and a lot of fans, generates considerable and not insignificant economic income in these complex moments that we are living”, the councilor concludes.
