The acronym of ApL will not appear in the next elections in May 2007, but will be integrated within the Canarian Coalition. To do this, the members of the first force will have to join, individually, the Canarian Coalition, which could lead to some of them not acting in this way. "All members will have the same rights when it comes to being part of the electoral lists", said the island president of the Canarian Coalition, Mario Pérez, last Monday, after the signing of the agreement between the two parties.
Similarly, the organic positions of ApL will be integrated into the governing bodies of the Canarian Coalition. At the national level, one will be included in the Permanent Committee, two in the Executive Committee, and four in the National Political Council. On the other hand, at the island level, four will be included in the Permanent Committee and sixteen in the Political Council. "We intend to build a single thing", Mario Pérez indicated. "We do not want sensitivities or tribes to be generated as has happened in the recent past of CC".
Reactions in the PIL
As expected, the Party of Independents of Lanzarote has not viewed favorably this agreement signed between ApL and the Canarian Coalition. The PIL has once again insisted that this pact has its origins "in Paulino Rivero, María Isabel Déniz and Celso Betancort, when they were still members of the PIL". From the party led by Dimas Martín they also assure that the only objective of CC was to seize the "popular support" that exists in Lanzarote in favor of the PIL.
Likewise, the Independents have accused the Canarian Coalition of "betting on people without a project and without criteria", referring to those who were previously part of the PIL and are now members of ApL, whom they accuse of having plunged Lanzarote into "the biggest crisis of all time".
