The agents of the Citizen Security and Intervention Unit of the Arrecife Local Police, who began their first services on Wednesday evening, have already acted in various areas of the capital, such as Valterra, Cuatro Esquinas, El Charco de San Ginés, Argana Alta and the vicinity of the Tángara nightclub.
From Wednesday to early Sunday morning, the agents filed three complaints for possession of narcotic substances, another three for alcohol consumption on public roads, another for possession of a knife, four reports for driving under the influence of alcohol, another for driving without having obtained a driving license and three administrative complaints for drunk driving, according to the Arrecife City Council.
The councilor responsible for the Local Police area, Jacobo Lemes, recalled that this unit, made up entirely of agents who volunteered, "complements the daily work that municipal police are already doing." "As I said at the time, the USCI is not made up of new agents. No new members have been incorporated, but we have restructured the police groups," he said.
This unit is made up of eight members, an officer and seven police officers, who serve on the same shift. However, the City Council has advanced that these shifts will rotate depending on needs.
"The services provided by this unit are for prevention and immediate intervention in matters of citizen security in those shifts in which the Headquarters deems it necessary, due to the celebration of events, due to the concentration of people in leisure areas, or due to citizen security problems in certain points of the municipality," the councilor insisted.
