The city of Arrecife will become the center of national gastronomy during the month of April with the celebration, for the first time in the Canary Islands, and with the capital of Lanzarote as the only venue, of the Miniature-Enyesque Congress. This is a high cuisine competition and is in turn a national showcase of Basque gastronomy, through the renowned pintxos and enyesques, mainstays of miniature cuisine, and with the endorsement of the main institutions of the Basque Country.
The Miniature-Enyesque Congress will hold its First Pintxos and Enyesques Championship in which the best chefs of the island will participate, and the finalists will attend the Irun Chef competition, which will take place in October in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the origin of this prestigious gastronomy congress. The congress will take place on the Islote de Fermina between April 21 and 23, and will be attended by some of the best Basque chefs.
The mayoress of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, and the councillor for Hospitality and Tourism, Armando Santana, attended the presentation of the Miniature-Enyesque Congress this Tuesday at the Castillo de San José, organised by FELAPYME and sponsored by the Arrecife Town Hall, the SPEL and the Canary Islands Government.
“This gastronomic event places our city as a benchmark of national gastronomy", said the mayoress, Astrid Pérez, and highlighted "the growth that Arrecife has experienced in the launch of new restaurants with an accredited gastronomic quality”.
“This boost to local restaurants has been possible thanks to the initiative of young chefs who are raising the bar of the culinary level of our city, and also because of the Arrecife Town Hall's policy of promoting the gastronomic value of the restaurants in this municipality, through the different events that we have launched, such as the already famous Tapas Fair or more recently the Enyesque Route”, added the mayoress.
The councillor for Hospitality and Tourism, Armando Santana, highlighted the importance of the Congress, which “places Arrecife on the gastronomic map of avant-garde cuisine” and welcomed the election of the capital of Lanzarote “as the only venue in the Canary Islands for an event of this calibre, in which some of the most prestigious chefs of the acclaimed Basque cuisine will participate, and which will serve as an incentive to learn about the culinary productions of our chefs”.
The capital's Consistory points out that from Thursday 21 to Saturday 23 April, the Islote de Fermina becomes the general headquarters of the Congress for professionals, with the different phases of the competition and with the development of Master Classes, presentations and working tables. There will also be an exhibitors' area with the best products of Basque gastronomy. In addition, they point out from the Town Hall that on Sunday 24 April between 11.00 am and 2.00 pm there will be a popular day of miniature cuisine tasting for all citizens.
From 7 April to 20 April there will be a popular phase with the participation of the bars and restaurants of the capital, in which all citizens who wish to do so will be able to taste the enyesques proposed by each participating establishment, which will be eligible to be the winners of the “Popular Enyesque”.
