The Insular Government Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote initiated on Wednesday morning the contracting file for the lease of the Insular Cheese Factory industry. In this way, in the next few days the bases of the contest that will govern the exploitation of this industry will be published in the Official Gazette of the Province.

The bidders will have, from then on, a period of fifteen calendar days to submit their offers. These will be studied by the contracting table that is formalized in this regard fifteen days after the mandatory publication in the Provincial Gazette.

The proposed award procedure is based, according to the Cabildo, "on a completely open contest, with ordinary processing and with several award criteria that may be recorded once it is published, as required by law." As approved by the Governing Council, the private lease contract will establish a duration of fifteen years for the exploitation and a tender of 2,519.79 euros and 125.98 euros in respect of IGIC, on a monthly basis.

For the Government group of the Cabildo and for the Councilor for Agriculture and Livestock, Nereida Pérez, "this step encourages us to see that our commitment to put this cheese factory into operation is fulfilled and for the transparency and clarity with which we have approached the process. We hope that in a few weeks the management of this industry will be awarded and that, in a few months, Lanzarote will be able to produce its own cheeses with its own milk, helping to reactivate a traditional sector of great importance for the island."
