The Island Director of Education, Juan Ramón Pérez, has committed to the AMPA of the Nieves Toledo school in Arrecife to try to get the school's dining room up and running "in September." "We will give a definitive answer this week regarding the launch of this infrastructure," Pérez told La Voz.
Ramón Pérez met at 10:00 a.m. with the "newly formed" AMPA of Nieves Toledo at the headquarters of the Island Directorate of Education. The parents expressed their "concern" about the non-opening of this dining room and informed him that on Friday they presented a total of 1,187 signatures at the Island Education Office to demand that this infrastructure be put into operation.
The dining room of the Nieves Toledo Infant and Primary School has been built for two years. It was completed at the end of 2009, but it cannot be used yet. However, the Arrecife City Council points out that the building has "all the necessary" municipal permits to be put into operation. "We find no reason why its commissioning should not be authorized, a responsibility that is exclusively of the Government of the Canary Islands," said the AMPA.
On the other hand, Pérez wanted to congratulate the parents for having formed this AMPA, which this school did not have before. "Good news because it favors the participation of parents in the management of schools," said the Island Director of Education.
