The Government of the Canary Islands lowers the height requirement to join the Local Police

The Government of the Canary Islands approved this Friday the Decree that modifies and updates, with equality criteria, the minimum height required for access to the Local Police forces of the Canary Islands and sets it at 1.65 meters for men and 1.52 for women. The Canary Islands Executive thus adapts the minimum height required to the characteristics of the majority of the Canary Islands population, significantly reducing any discrimination that may exist due to height issues, both in men and women, to integrate as civil servants in the local police forces of the Canary Islands.

Thus, more than 90% of people of each sex will be able to apply for the tests for access to the local police forces of the Canary Islands, and in any case, practically 95% of people under 40 years of age at present.

The agreement adopted, after the favorable report of the Canary Islands Advisory Council, modifies Decree 178/2006, of December 5, which establishes the basic conditions of access, promotion and mobility of the members of the Local Police forces of the Canary Islands, which establishes the specific requirement of the minimum height for a person to be admitted to the access tests to the different scales and jobs in which the Local Police forces of the Canary Islands are hierarchically structured, for the free shift access system, setting it at 1.70 meters for men and 1.60 meters for women.

The purpose of the Decree is to modify the aforementioned precept, in order to reduce by five centimeters the minimum height required for men, which would be 1.65 meters, and by eight centimeters for women, which would be 1.52 meters.
