The Government of Spain is preparing to "extinguish" the Francisco Franco Foundation in compliance with the Democratic Memory Law, considering that this entity advocates for the dictatorship, as announced this Friday in Fuerteventura by Minister Ángel Víctor Torres.

"The law clearly states that foundations that glorify those people, groups or associations that advocated for Francoism, that defended totalitarianism and dictatorship, are not allowed. Therefore, the Francisco Franco Foundation is not allowed, in any case. And what is going to be done is to extinguish it," the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory told reporters.

Ángel Víctor Torres made this announcement during his visit to one of the symbols of the repression of the dictatorship, the Tefía agricultural penal colony, in Fuerteventura, where the regime that governed Spain from 1936 to 1975 confined people from the LGTBI community for years solely because of their sexual condition.
