The City Council and Telefónica sign a collaboration agreement in Tías

The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, and the territorial director of Telefónica in the Canary Islands, Juan José Flores Mederos, signed a collaboration agreement last Wednesday that will place the southern municipality among the first in terms of telecommunications in the Canary Islands. The purpose of the agreement is to establish the necessary cooperation framework between the municipal institution and Telefónica to jointly analyze and develop all projects that aim to improve and promote the use of new technologies in Tías.

The municipal council and the operator will analyze the urban population centers to improve the offer of telecommunications services and will work on a global management of licenses, which allows the endorsement of works and the transfer of public spaces necessary for the deployment of infrastructures. In addition, the new promotions and urban plans, both residential and business, will have a specific treatment in everything related to communications.

Work is being done to facilitate the Rural ADSL service by satellite to all the population entities of Tías, including the nuclei of Macher and La Asomada, which will be available from next December.

Regarding infrastructure, the agreement contemplates the undergrounding of overhead lines and environmental impact, through the use of works in progress or that can be executed through external contributions. Telefónica will deploy wireless broadband networks (Wi-Fi) in libraries, municipal dependencies, etc. Likewise, it is planned to provide all new public housing with communication infrastructures through the promoter line program.

A plan will also be drawn up to improve infrastructure for mobile telephony and 3G technology services, in accordance with the new municipal ordinance, and the replacement of the TRAC (Rural Cellular Access Telephony) plant with a more advanced technology will be studied.

Through the aforementioned agreement, a plan will be developed to improve telecommunications infrastructure for mobile telephony and 3G technology services, in line with the provisions of the new municipal ordinance and taking into account the visual and environmental impact through mimetic solutions. Likewise, specific containers will be located in the municipality for the collection of batteries and mobile terminals and their subsequent transfer, and tele-emergency services will be analyzed (through GPS technology).

The development of Electronic Administration and the global management of internal networks for services such as telemedicine, the deployment of the comprehensive system of cardioprotection columns and the monitoring of the updating of the municipality's street map, considering the variations that may occur due to the opening of new housing and industrial developments, are other aspects contemplated by the signing of this agreement.

José Juan Cruz Saavedra expressed his satisfaction with the agreement at the end of the act and highlighted Telefónica's sensitivity to the requests made by municipal officials. With this agreement, he stressed that the aim is to collect neighborhood demands and ensure that Tías not only does not lag behind in the development of new technologies but also occupies an advanced level that guarantees the full development of personal and professional aspirations in this area.
