Melisa Rodríguez, who was a candidate for Citizens to the Parliament of the Canary Islands and current party candidate for Congress for Santa Cruz de Tenerife, has become part of the party's national executive. The party approved this Wednesday during its General Council, held in Barcelona, that new national executive that, as detailed by the leader of the formation, Albert Rivera, will be composed of "the main municipal, regional representatives" and also by "the members who will be in the congress of deputies".
For Benjamín Perdomo, Citizens councilor in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the fact that Rodríguez is part of that body "creates a direct link for the defense of the interests of the Canarians." Perdomo celebrated the appointment this Thursday, pointing out that "it is a pride that Rodríguez is the voice of the citizens of the Canary Islands." The councilor also considers that from this new position in the party's leadership Melisa Rodríguez will be able to support from the national sphere "issues as important as the modification of the Canarian Electoral Law or the reform of the Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF)".
The approval of this national executive was carried out without any votes against, as detailed by Ciudadanos. "For the first time in the history of this party, a representation body is created for all of Spain after the expansion of the formation in recent months," Rivera said in this regard. The leader of Ciudadanos also detailed that the formation will also have 17 territorial committees in addition to the national executive, which will be approved "in the coming weeks." "We have only done legally and politically what is already a reality in the polls and that is that Ciudadanos is a party of national scope and that aspires to govern in Spain," he said.
Together with Melisa Rodríguez, Luis Garicano, professor of economics, will be in the new National Executive of Ciudadanos; Javier Nart, deputy of Ciudadanos in the European Parliament; Fernando Giner, party spokesman in the Valencia City Council; Susana Gaspar, spokeswoman in the Courts of Aragon; Carolina Punset, spokeswoman in the Valencian Community; Ignacio Aguado, leader of Ciudadanos in the Community of Madrid; Juan Marín, leader of the formation in Andalusia; Marta Rivera, writer and number 3 on the list for Congress of Deputies for Madrid; Luis Fuentes, party leader in Castilla y León; Xavier Pericay, spokesman for Ciudadanos in the Balearic Islands; and Begoña Villacís, party spokeswoman in the Madrid City Council.
