The Cabildo of Lanzarote will carry out a new free distribution of books on the occasion of Canary Islands Day. This distribution will take place next Saturday, May 28, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in front of La Casa Amarilla, located on Calle Real de Arrecife.
“Now we will not only release books on Canarian themes that are part of the Publications Service's collection, but also music CDs from our land that are also part of said collection”, explains the Councilor for Education, Youth and Equality of the Cabildo, Myriam Barros, also responsible for the management of the Publications Service of the first island corporation.
As Barros details, "a book and a CD will be distributed per person, although, in order to receive them, interested citizens will have to participate in an activity, in which they will have to explain what Canarian identity means to them".
“In this way, in addition to commemorating Canary Islands Day, we continue to release the thousands of books from the Publications Service's collection that, upon arriving at the Council, we found locked in boxes in a warehouse, in a poor state of conservation and without being cataloged or inventoried”, points out the island councilor.
In this regard, the Cabildo recalls that last April, on the occasion of Book Day, the Cabildo carried out a free distribution of more than 500 copies of books on cultural and Canarian themes, which took place both in La Casa Amarilla and in the Island Library, and which was “a complete success”, as Myriam Barros concludes.
