The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of Agriculture and Livestock, has awarded the construction of a greenhouse at the Experimental Agricultural Farm. The aim of this project is to ensure the health of the plants and improve the quality of crops on the island, especially the production of sweet potatoes, a key product for the local economy.
The president of the Corporation and councilor of the Area, Oswaldo Betancort, indicates that this installation responds to the growing demand of the agricultural sector in the face of the increase in diseases and pathogens that have affected various agricultural species. "The new greenhouse will allow us to obtain significant quantities of plants free of infections, thus protecting the quality of crops, which are in high demand both inside and outside Lanzarote," says the president.
Oswaldo Betancor also emphasizes that "this project reinforces the island Corporation's commitment to innovation in the agricultural sector, supporting local producers to eradicate crop diseases and guaranteeing the continuity of products."
This new infrastructure, which will occupy more than 1,700 square meters, will involve an investment of more than 397,000 euros financed with the Cabildo's own funds and FDCAN funds. Once the award contract is formalized, the works are expected to last eight months.
