The Cabildo of Lanzarote has already published in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) the call for subsidies for self-employed workers and SMEs to alleviate the economic impact of the health crisis of Covid-19. The deadline to apply will open this Tuesday and will be one month.

Recently, the first institution of the island signed a collaboration agreement with the Chamber of Commerce to speed up the management and processing of these aids, which have a budget of six million euros. This amount "may be increased depending on the economic availability of the Cabildo". "The commitment is to attend to the largest number of applications possible," said the Minister of Commerce of the Cabildo, Carmen Guadalupe.

The beneficiaries of these subsidies may be self-employed workers and small businesses in Lanzarote and La Graciosa registered before March 14, 2021 in a business or professional activity for profit, who continue to be so uninterruptedly, who have less than 50 employees and who have had a decrease of 30% or more in their turnover in 2020 compared to 2019.

The amount of the subsidies would vary depending on the number of workers the company has or the self-employed workers, if they have employees. For those individuals or companies with up to three workers, an amount of 1,500 euros will be granted, while for those with up to six workers, 2,000 euros will be granted.

Companies with between 6 and 10 workers may receive aid of 2,500 euros, those with between 10 and 20 employees of 4,000 euros and those with more than 20 workers and less than 50 will receive a subsidy of 6,000 euros, which is the maximum amount that will be granted.

The granting of these subsidies will be carried out following the procedure of non-competitive concurrence and the deadline for the submission of applications will be one month from the day following the publication of the call in the BOP, so it will open this Tuesday. However, it is indicated that it "may be extended exceptionally by the Island Government Council".

Applications must be addressed to the Presidency of the Cabildo and "will be submitted only electronically, through the virtual electronic window enabled by the collaborating entity". Any application that is not submitted by this route "will be automatically rejected".

Promote the business fabric and recover the island's economy

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, values that finally it has been possible to open the call for "subsidies so important to boost the business fabric and recover the economy of the island" and highlights the agreement signed with the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote to "speed up the procedures and get the money to applicants as soon as possible."

"Apart from the agreement with the Chamber of Commerce, to expedite the processing of applications, an electronic headquarters has been hired exclusively for this period, which will be used only for the processing of this line of aid," explained the Minister of Commerce, Carmen Guadalupe.

Guadalupe also recalls that these subsidies from the Cabildo are compatible with the line of aid taken out by the Government of the Canary Islands with the same objective.

The aid from the Cabildo of Lanzarote should not be justified or returned, provided that the requirements to receive such benefit are met. All the necessary information is on the website of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa and there will be 13 people dedicated to solving doubts and problems in person or by telephone of those people who want to submit their application.
