The mythical Bar Stop of Yaiza in Lanzarote has won the award for Best Classic Bar in the Canary Islands, awarded by the publication Tapas Magazine, from the Forbes publishing group, in the first edition of the T de Bares Awards.
The awards ceremony was held this Monday, May 25, in Madrid with two categories and two bars per autonomous community: Best Modern Bar, which in the Canary Islands went to Tagoro, in Fuerteventura, and Best Classic Bar, which went to Bar Stop, an award collected by its owner Fátima Machín.
“Bar Stop of Yaiza is the oldest bar in Lanzarote, since 1890,” explains to La Voz de Lanzarote, one of its managers, Humberto Quilón”.

The award has recognized Bar Stop of Yaiza, famous above all for its chickpeas, and also for its sancocho or its onion fish for “its tradition and its bar concept,” shares Quilón.
During the awards ceremony, it was explained that the “Classic Bars” category was created to recognize those historic establishments that have kept the essence of traditional hospitality alive for decades.
“No trend is born out of nothing. For us to be here today, there had to be bars that have withstood the test of time with the shutters always up,” said Julia de Castro, presenter of the event, before inviting the award winners to the stage.
