The Víctor Fernández Gopar El Salinero Insular Theater in Arrecife experienced one of those evenings last Friday night that will remain in the memory of those who had the privilege of attending. The singer from Tenerife, born in Punta del Hidalgo, Chago Melián, chose the emblematic Lanzarote venue to present his show "Toda una Vida" (A Lifetime), a production with his own seal that summarizes half a century of artistic and human trajectory on stage.

From the first moment, it was clear that this was no ordinary concert. It was the celebration of fifty years of music, experiences, encounters, and emotions shared by the Canary Islands and various corners of the world such as Argentina, Uruguay, Miami, or Hawaii, places that have profoundly marked the artist's career.

Supported by the magnificent Tenerife Chamber Orchestra, composed of thirty extraordinary musicians and choristers under the direction of maestro Francis Hernández, Chago Melián offered a carefully designed show, where every detail was part of an impeccable staging that captivated the audience from the beginning to the last note.

The concert was developed in three perfectly differentiated acts. The first part transported the attendees to the sixties and seventies through a journey of great international hits performed in English in a medley format. Songs that have transcended generations and are part of the sentimental soundtrack of millions of people found in Chago's voice an elegant and nuanced interpretation.

The second part took the audience to Hawaii, a land to which the singer feels especially connected since his childhood and which has inspired his recent album "Canarias-Hawái" (Canary Islands-Hawaii). Polynesian rhythms, sensitive melodies, and a careful ambiance transformed the stage into a cultural bridge between both archipelagos. Special prominence was given to the participation of his daughter, who through dance exquisitely and delicately depicted landscapes, emotions, and traditions that were rewarded by the audience with prolonged and warm ovations.

The third and final part was dedicated to the Canary Islands, their roots, and their identity. It was then that Chago Melián unleashed the full emotional force of a repertoire that is already part of the islands' musical heritage. Songs like "Bendita mi tierra Guanche," "Atlántico," "Patria Canaria," and "Anaga" resonated with special intensity in a completely captivated audience. On this occasion, he was accompanied by the young singer Nauzet Hernández and the soprano Candelaria González, who brought brilliance and sensitivity to interpretations that deeply moved the attendees.

Each song was received with growing enthusiasm, culminating in a unanimous ovation that brought the audience to their feet to pay homage to an artist who, on his own merits, holds a prominent place among the great soloists of the Canary Islands and whose career has allowed him to share the stage with renowned national and international figures.

When it seemed the night was coming to an end, the audience resisted saying goodbye. The applause and expressions of affection called for one last performance. Chago Melián responded with the closeness and generosity that have always characterized him, gifting the attendees his emblematic "Ave María," one of the most beloved compositions in his repertoire. The performance took on an even more special meaning when it was recalled that it will be precisely this work that he will perform on June 12th during the mass that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV will celebrate on the island of Tenerife, a historic event that will remain forever etched in the artist's memory.
