The Cabildo of Lanzarote has again sent the modified definitive project for the restoration of Plaza de Las Palmas, located next to the church of San Ginés, to the Arrecife City Council. From the Cabildo, they point out that these documents have been sent again with the aim of starting the works "as soon as possible" "in view of the abandonment of the capital's City Council", said Ariagona González, Councilor for Heritage of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.

However, the councilor denounced the "little interest shown by the Arrecife City Council when it comes to collaborating between both institutions to carry out the project." Ariagona indicated that the proposal was made in the month of February and that, until now, they have only encountered obstacles to carry out the necessary procedures, "a sign that the City Council is not interested in saving buildings and areas of historical and heritage value in the city, leaving it abandoned and allowing pieces of our past to be lost," the councilor stressed.

Ariagona González hopes that, once the project has been presented again after modifying the proposal in response to the negative report sent by the Arrecife City Council itself, the City Council will show "its cooperation and allow us to continue the line of preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the capital."

The councilor stressed the importance of these actions to "recover a design as similar as possible to the one that César Manrique made in the 50s for this area" and, thus, be able to finalize the "problem of the large plant elements that are overflowing the flowerbeds."

The rehabilitation of the square aims to solve the problem of the planters, as well as the reordering of the accesses, to improve the accessibility and transit of the Square, and the integration of the cistern that is inside the Square for visual enjoyment. Likewise, the project contemplates the pedestrianization of a section of Otilia Díaz street.
