Arrecife has an objective and that is to "promote the city touristically and place it in the place it deserves". This is the purpose pursued with the public photography and video contest "Objetivo Arrecife 2020", which was presented this Thursday at the Municipal Archive of Arrecife. An initiative that aims to show the places of interest in the city and make them known to everyone through the main social networks (Facebook, Tuenti or Twitter), which will serve as support for those photos and videos of Arrecife, which will be valued by the millions of Internet users around the world who use these networks daily.
This was stated by the mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, who, together with the Councilor for Tourism of the Arrecife City Council, Ángela Hernández, has invited all the young people of the island to come this Saturday, starting at 12 noon, to the Terraza Biosfera, where this innovative promotional initiative of Arrecife will be presented, which will ensure that "some photographs and videos of Arrecife reach any corner of the planet, where the peculiarities and beauties of our capital will be known".
Reguera explained that it is necessary to "value each of the corners of our city and that young people commit to Arrecife". "The city has to stop being the ugly backyard of the island. Arrecife and its marina have unique spaces in the archipelago that have been neglected until now and that need to be recovered to revalue the capital municipality. We must feel proud of our municipality and get involved with our city to turn it into the tourist center par excellence of the island, said the capital's mayor.
For her part, the Councilor for Tourism, Ángela Hernández, added that the objective of the contest is none other than to encourage public participation in this space whose purpose is to "promote the city of Arrecife, make evident the relationship of science with daily life and show the places of tourist interest in the city. It is about increasing interest in Arrecife by involving all citizens". In this way, she stated that the best photographs and videos that have been uploaded to the website www.objetivoarrecife.com will be awarded, from June 19 to August 31, 2010, "photographs and videos that will be selected for the tourist promotion of the city".
In this sense, it should be noted that so far the visits to this page at the national level amount to 2,616,939, with the island ones being 2,151. In addition, at the island level, 650 people have shown interest in this initiative on Facebook, 380 on Tuenti and 320 through Twitter.
