The Arrecife City Council has decided to close El Reducto beach to swimming due to microbiological contamination due to a spill from Punta del Camello. The decision is made after viewing the sanitary inspection report from the Lanzarote Health Area Directorate, which strongly advises against swimming after observing in the aforementioned area "a spill with a characteristic odor of sewage."

Similarly, according to the report, the existence of "solid waste in the sand and typical grease balls from sewage spills" has also been observed.

Considering that at the time of the inspection the wind had an intensity of about 15 knots and a southerly direction, and considering that this situation favors the entry of the spill onto the beach, the Arrecife City Council, following the recommendations of Public Health, has immediately proceeded to install fences in the area.

Likewise, signs have been placed warning users that swimming is not recommended due to possible microbiological contamination "until normality is restored, the spill ceases, and the quality of the bathing water is verified."

The Councilor for Health, Environment, and Beaches of the Arrecife City Council, Rafael Juan González, regrets the inconvenience that these measures may cause and asks citizens "for their safety" to respect the indications and not to use the beach "until it is indicated that El Reducto is once again suitable for swimming."
