The municipality of Teguise has signed an agreement for the professionalization of the municipal Animal Shelter, with the entity Gestión y Planeamiento Territorial y Medioambiental (Gesplan), which will last 28 months and have an investment of 545 thousand euros.
As explained by the mayor of the town, Oswaldo Betancort, "this signature will mark a before and after in animal welfare, at a time when we have already modernized the infrastructure of the municipal shelter, within the management model of a town hall that has been a pioneer in the implementation of policies, ordinances and in the defense of animal protection."
For his part, Manuel Agoney Piñero, representative of Gesplan, highlighted that his entity seeks to "achieve the greatest efficiency with the help of the government group" and has shown "his full disposition and that of his team."
Likewise, Piñero highlighted that Gesplan has previous experience in this field in Gran Canaria, where they manage the Insular Shelter, "with good data and results in the management and adoption of animals."
Novelties
After the signing of this new agreement, the Animal Shelter will have a higher veterinary technician and two operators from the municipality of Teguise, who will take care of the optimal operation of the shelter, its maintenance and conservation, and to fulfill its social objective.
This agreement will be accompanied by monitoring compliance with the law and ordinances, as well as the commitment of the Teguise City Council with the groups and volunteers of the island, entities that will ensure that the institutions comply with what is established.
Also, as they have advanced from the consistory, they are considering allocating a plot attached to the Animal Shelter so that the animals have more space, as well as developing activities with the conejeras protection associations and continue with awareness campaigns.
