The Teguise City Council has announced that it is working to conclude, "in the shortest possible time", the expansion works of the abandoned animal shelter and adaptation of the same to current regulations.
In this sense, and after the indications of the General Directorate of Livestock of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Council indicates that it will provide "a veterinarian to ensure the welfare of the animals while the works last."
It should be remembered that on June 5, the main opposition party, the PSOE, denounced the "lamentable state of the municipal kennel", and that even the Teguise City Council itself responded that from the institution "they had nothing to hide".
“We are working on a management contract for the shelter with a significant economic amount of more than 200,000 euros, as stated in our budgets”, says the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, and adds that “it is necessary to have the work finished before the entry of the management company”.
The Councilor for Animal Welfare, Gerardo Rodríguez, points out that “given the growing demand to house abandoned animals, it is necessary to continue increasing the number of dog places, as well as adapting to current regulations”.

From the Consistory they remember that "it is the responsibility of the owners to keep the animals up to date on vaccination, registered in the municipal animal registry and with the relevant licenses if it is a Potentially Dangerous Dog (PPP)".
The Teguise City Council reminds that in case of finding any abandoned animal on public roads, they should call the Teguise Local Police at 928845252.
