The Teguise City Council is carrying out expansion and improvement works at the Municipal Animal Shelter or Reception Center for Abandoned Animals "in view of the increase and need to accommodate stray dogs in the municipality, now aggravated by the health and economic crisis."
The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, checked the progress of the works on site together with the Councilor for Works, Eugenio Robayna, and the Councilor for Animal Welfare, Sara Bermúdez, and thanked the center's staff and volunteers for their work. "The population of the municipality is constantly growing and with it the increase in the number of dogs, but we ask everyone to be very responsible with their pets and continue to show the utmost respect and exemplary behavior in keeping animals," said Betancort.
The works consist of the construction of new modules to house dogs, changing the fencing, reforming the floor and new channeling, among other works, which "will improve the stay of the animals inside the shelter and also facilitate the work of the operators in charge of collection, cleaning and feeding tasks," according to the Councilor for Roads and Works, Eugenio Robayna.
From the Animal Welfare area, they remind that "it is the obligation of all residents to keep their animals up to date with the identification chip, vaccinations and registered in the City Council". "If it is a Potentially Dangerous Dog (PPP), you must apply for the corresponding license," says councilor Sara Bermúdez. "On the other hand, when someone finds an unaccompanied animal on public roads, they must give the corresponding notice to the Local Police (928 84 52 52), which will activate the animal collection service," she adds.
Likewise, the councilor points out that "all people who wish to adopt a dog from the shelter and give it the home it deserves, can request an appointment to visit by calling the Animal Welfare office, at number 928 84 53 17"
