The Teguise City Council has requested the Local Police to draft a report to officially record the lack of water supply in La Graciosa, which has spent most of the bridge without supply. In addition, the councilor delegate on the island, Alicia Páez, will request the urgent and monographic convocation of the Island Water Consortium.

“It is unbearable to have to continuously suffer these deficiencies in the most basic services for people, due to the abandonment and neglect to which the citizens of La Graciosa are subjected”, says Páez. “The inhabitants of the eighth Canary Island seem to be begging the Government of the Canary Islands when the reality is that they have not allocated a single cent to improve the main infrastructures of the island's population centers”, says the Graciosa mayor.

“We would like to have the same conditions as the rest of the Canary citizens and be able to guarantee the supply of water in adequate quantity and quality to those nuclei because, right now, in addition to running out of water every day from 6 in the afternoon, we have to suffer very frequently cuts that last several days”, lamented Alicia Páez

“Faced with this new water crisis, the mayor has asked the Police to draw up a report to inform the Cabildo of Lanzarote and put pressure on them to promote the pending works to be carried out in La Graciosa”, adds Páez, referring to the need to change the channeling that carries supply water from Lanzarote to Caleta de Sebo.

The councilor reiterates “the regret" of her fellow citizens "for the lack of investments on the island of La Graciosa", as she claims she verified "personally after attending the Council of the Biosphere Reserve of Lanzarote, where the Cabildo showed the list of planned investments and none appeared for the Eighth Island”.

On the other hand, Páez assures that she has made a request to replace the water supply pipe on the island of La Graciosa, by means of a letter addressed to the Island Water Council, in order to inform them of the multiple complaints from the residents of La Graciosa regarding the repeated problems that have been occurring in the water supply, mainly because the supply pipe from Lanzarote to La Graciosa that was installed at the time no longer supports the current demand, basically, due to its age and small caliber. Thus, she requests the replacement of the aforementioned pipe and "the general revision and renovation of the defective hydraulic system of the island of La Graciosa".
