The former president of the Cabildo and current CC councilor in the opposition, Pedro San Ginés, appeared this Thursday before the media to assess the acquittal in the case of the seizure of the Montaña Roja desalination plant and the dismissal of another of the procedures in which he was being investigated, and began by expressing his “satisfaction”, although he focused most of his press conference on attacking different parties and “certain media outlets”.

“They will have to assume my innocence, at least in this case”, he said in reference to the desalination plant case. “I will continue to be investigated, I warn you that more are coming”, added San Ginés, who still has several open cases, including one for embezzlement and bribery, in which the summary secrecy has just been lifted.

Regarding his political future after the desalination plant ruling, he has limited himself to pointing out that it will depend on the party to decide whether he will head the CC list to the Cabildo in the next elections. “I am the same today as I was yesterday, exactly the same. Neither yesterday I was so bad and so disqualified, nor today I am so good and so resurrected. I am exactly the same”, he pointed out.

At the press conference he was supported by some party officials, such as the general secretary Migdalia Machín and the Arrecife councilor Echedey Eugenio, although he was also asked about absences such as that of the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, who could aspire to lead that list to the first institution.

In this regard, he pointed out that others have not attended either, such as the mayor of Tinajo and councilors “who have apologized”, and he attributed it to the fact that they hold government positions. However, he himself then stressed that this is also the case of Echedey Eugenio, although he justified it by stating that he was attending on behalf of the local committee of Arrecife, of which he is a part. “And I appreciate the support”, he stated. “The one who has not come is because he could not or perhaps did not want to”, he added.

"I don't expect an apology"

Although he dedicated most of his appearance to attacking the PSOE, and in particular María Dolores Corujo and Carlos Espino, as well as Podemos, Alternativa Ciudadana and Benjamín Perdomo, who under his presidency was a member of Ciudadanos, San Ginés later denied that he was blaming parties or media outlets for his judicial situation.

“I have not said that”, he stated, when asked if he intended to say that there was someone behind the judicial decisions, such as the opening of oral proceedings for the desalination plant case, or the recent search of his home and the freezing of his accounts.

“Six months before the last elections they had managed to open oral proceedings. That was done by Judge Jerónimo Alonso”, San Ginés had said in his previous intervention, when talking about the desalination plant case.

In addition, he has questioned the “extensive media coverage” that this issue has had “for eight years” and the “parallel trial” that he believes he has suffered.

“I don't expect an apology”, he repeated on several occasions, again naming politicians from various parties and in particular the current president of the Cabildo, as well as some radio stations, digital newspapers and television, which he believes have “denied him the right of defense”.

“They continue to assure that despite being acquitted, I must abandon politics, because I am a guilty person who has been acquitted”, he stated.

However, he has defended that his “will” and his “moral” are “intact”. “My conscience is clear and my pockets are getting emptier, for reasons that you know”, he added, in possible reference to the freezing of his account by the judge who is investigating the new case against him for embezzlement and bribery, in which he is being investigated together with Ignacio Calatayud.
