The San Bartolomé City Council has made available to residents a total of 26 free "high capacity" wifi points, thus contributing to the fact that all citizens, through the 'San Bartolomé Conectado' project, have easy access to the Internet from public spaces, in an accessible and free way, as explained by the mayor of the municipality, María Dolores Corujo.

'San Bartolomé Conectado', a project developed from the area of new technologies of the City Council delegated to Antonio Rocío, aims to bring the Internet to all points of the municipality through a total of 26 wifi points located in the different localities. The user key with which residents can access from all points is the same, which is 'ayuntamientosb', according to Rocío. This project and works have been carried out by Ute TdE-TME DLIX, for an amount of 65,123 euros plus IGIC.

Each point has a capacity of 100 users simultaneously without lowering the speed, per antenna outdoors and 75 per indoor point, with 75 meters of coverage range outdoors and 40 meters indoors. All points have 600 symmetrical megas (FTTH) except those located in the civic centers of the towns and in the Library of San Bartolomé, which have ADSL with 20 megas download and 800 upload. This will allow it to be linked to the multiple workshops and activities that take place in the civic centers, many of them related to the use of new technologies, which is considered "an indispensable tool for work and leisure".

Location of wifi points

In the town of San Bartolomé there will be two free wifi points in the Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente Park and one in the Plaza León y Castillo, in the Football Field, in the Sports Center Pavilion, in the Wrestling Ground, in the Gymnasium, in the Library, in the City Hall, and in the Bodeguita of Casa Cerdeña.

Playa Honda, for its part, will have two free wifi points in the Plaza Santa Elena, in the Football Field and in the Civic Center and one in the Sports Center, in the Municipal Offices and in the Library.

In Güime, the Civic Center has a total of 3 wifi points, while the Civic Center of El Islote already has two points installed, as does Montaña Blanca.

The Councilor for Public Services of the City Council of San Bartolomé, Alexis Tejera, stressed in his speech at the press conference held on Monday morning, that "connectivity is essential to reduce the digital divide" and said that "the City Council has made a significant effort to provide the largest possible number of wifi points to citizens", so that residents "of all ages can have internet connection "to perform their searches, training, information, etc".
